Closet Quickies: Quick Tips to Organize Your Closet

Have you ever looked at your overloaded closet and thought "I have nothing to wear"? I would love to overhaul my closet.  I have been putting this off for a while.  A long while.  Usually you go through your closet and look at what you haven't worn in a while and use that to help you determine whether or not you should keep it.  I couldn't really do that for a while.  First I was pregnant, so nothing fit.  Then I had to lose the baby weight so only some things fit.  Now most things fit but I'm breastfeeding.  That means even if they fit, a lot of high neckline shirts aren't being worn.

Hailey is going to be 1 in just 3 more months, so the end of breastfeeding is in sight.  That means a real closet overhaul is due in the not so distant future.  In the meantime, I've compiled so quick tips to help you get your closet more organized that don't involve a massive overhaul.  Maybe you just don't have the time.  Maybe you are like me and have been transitioning from a new baby so you can't really determine how you feel in some clothes. Maybe you love everything in your closet but just need help organizing it.  If any of these are the case, then these tips are for you!

Problem: You Can't Find Anything

Pick and order and stick to it.  I have my clothes organizes in sections by type of item. So I have skirts, then work pants, then casual pants, then tops and then dresses.  As far as my tops go, I organize them by color.  This helps me know exactly where to look when I am trying to find a particular clothing item.  You don't have to use this order.  Maybe you want to organize your closet by season or by work vs. casual.  It doesn't matter what order you choose as long as you know what it is and you stick to it.

Problem: No Place For Belts and Scarves

Are your belts hanging over a hanger? Are they constantly falling down? Are your scarves stuffed on a shelf getting wrinkled and unable to be seen? Here's a quick and easy solution.  Paint a pegboard a neutral color and hang it on the inside of your closet door.  Put hooks in your pegboard.  Now you have the perfect place to hang belts scarves or even necklaces!

Problem: Clothes Falling Off Hangers

Here is a fun tip that I found, tested and determined, it really works.  So the best option is to purchase all new hangers.  These huggable hangers are amazing.  They keep your clothes securely hung and are super durable.  If buying all new hangers is not in the cards, try this.  Grab your plastic hangers and your glue gun.  With your glue gun make a zigzag line on the top edge of both sides of your hanger and let dry.  Now when you hang your shirts on your plastic hangers, they won't fall off.

Problem: You Forget What You Have Because You Can't See It

Have you ever gone to the store and bought a shirt only to come home and realize you already have a shirt that is almost identical? This happens when we don't know what we have.  Instead of stuffing clothes in drawers get some inexpensive canvas shelves that hang from your closet bar.  Fold sweaters and place them here.  On a shelf, nothing is hiding at the bottom where you forget about it. It also saves sweaters from getting out of shape from being hung.

Problem: Your Shelves Are A Mess

I like to put my hoodies and sweat shirts on the top shelf of my closet.  The problem is these items don't exactly stack well.  They shirts fall over and the closet looks a mess.  An easy fix is shelf dividers.  These items separate stacks of clothes on a shelf so that the items stay where you put them and don't topple over.  The dividers clip onto your shelf so they can be customized to fit whatever item you are placing on the shelf.  They are not too expensive but can really help your closet shelves look sharp.

I hope you find these tips helpful! Do you have any closet organization hacks?  Let me know in the comments.
